Title: Love Like A Shoujo Manga ~Hikaru’s Side~
Rating: PG
Group/Pairing: Hey! Say! JUMP, one-sided TakaHika, Takabu
Notes: This was written by me for the jentfic_remix. Love Like A Shoujo Manga is such a cute fanfiction, and at first I really find no way to remix it. So I decided to write this cliche that happens in most shoujo manga... :) I hope I did it justice. And sorry for the lack of creativity in choosing the title...lol

“Hika-chaaaan~” 10 year-old Yaotome Hikaru heard his best friend crying out. He waved when he saw the taller boy running towards him. They were at a park, where Takaki was having his photo shoot.

“Hey, Hika-chan,” Little Takaki Yuya panted because he had run all the way to Hikaru. “Did you wait long?”

“No, I didn’t,” Hikaru shook his head and after a short pause, Hikaru complimented, “You look good in tennis attire.”

Takaki looked down at his clothes, and then, smiled at Hikaru.

“Thank you, Hika-chan,” he replied. Takaki spun around and grinned goofily. “I look good as a sportsman, don’t I?”

“Yeah, you do, Yuya,” Hikaru e said softly as he nodded his head.

“Takaki-kun~!”

Both Takaki and Hikaru looked at the source of the voice. It was Takaki’s manager. The older boy looked at his best friend apologetically.

“Sorry, Hika-chan. You’ll have to wait a little longer.” After Hikaru nodded, Takaki ran back to the other crewmembers.

Takaki Yuya is a 10 year-old child idol. His father was a movie director while his mother is a well-known model herself. Hikaru on the other hand comes from an artistic family. His parents are both a renowned musicians in the musical world, and it looked like Hikaru would follow their traits.

“For you, Yuyan, I could wait forever,” Hikaru whispered to himself.

True to his words, Hikaru waited. Ten years has passed since the day at the park, and Takaki was still as oblivious as ever. That night, they went for karaoke to celebrate. Actually, Takaki was the one who insisted they should celebrate; one for Hikaru’s acceptance letter to Juilliard, and the other reason, had Takaki yet refused to tell Hikaru. The older teen persisted on telling Hikaru during their celebration.

A small part of Hikaru hoped that Takaki would confess to him that night. Hikaru had hoped that finally, after all the years together, Takaki would return his feelings. His heart shattered when he found out the truth though.

“So, what are we celebrating for?” Hikaru asked, after Takaki finished singing his fifth song.

“Ah!” Takaki said, as if remembering their purpose of going to the karaoke place. He refilled his and Hikaru’s empty glasses with soda, and held his own glass high in the air.

“I would like to make a toast to my best friend, Yaotome Hikaru, for being a skilled violinist and landing himself a spot in Juilliard.” Takaki drank to that while Hikaru blushed, muttering ‘it was nothing special’.

Hikaru had not told Takaki but he still hadn’t make up his mind if he should take the offer to study abroad. Then, curiosity aroused once more, so he asked, “What’s the second reason for this celebration?”

Takaki placed his glass on the table and looked at Hikaru with his biggest grin and a sparkle in his eyes, a sparkle that Hikaru knew too well; the same sparkle that was in Hikaru’s eyes when he fell in love with the older guy. Hikaru knew he would dread the next few sentences that would come out of Takaki’s mouth.

“Today, I finally believe in love at first sight,” Takaki sighed dreamily.

“L-Love at first sight?” That was the bomb that shattered Hikaru’s heart. “W-who?” he asked, after finding his voice.

“Yabu Kouta,” Takaki smiled. He began telling Hikaru of the event that happened earlier that day. He began his story by telling how his cover was blown, and he was chased everywhere by fans. He told Hikaru how decided to hide in one little building in the middle of Akihabara, which turned out to be a manga library. He laughed when he mentioned the part where he was embarrassed for the mess that he has caused the owner of the library, Yabu Kouta.

“I’ve never been so ashamed of myself until that time,” he chuckled. Lastly, he told Hikaru how he fell in love with Yabu the moment he laid eyes on him.

“So, you’re really in love with him?” Hikaru felt the lump in his throat returning. Takaki nodded his head,

“I believe so.” Hikaru leaned back, accepting Takaki’s answer with sadness.

Takaki took the two microphones, and held one of it in front of Hikaru. “Come on, let’s sing.”

Hikaru shook his head. “I’m feeling a bit light-headed.”

Takaki looked at his friend worriedly. “Let’s just go home then. Sleepover at my at my house tonight.”

“Sure,” Hikaru replied softly.

Hikaru pulled his comforter up to his nose, staring at the wall in front of him. He could hear the soft breath of the sleeping Takaki. He sat on his knees, peering at Takaki. Hikaru went closer to the older guy. A soft smile appeared on Hikaru’s face. He traced his finger along Takaki’s face, and retracted it when the latter stirred in his sleep, whispering Yabu’s name.

Hikaru returned under his cover, curling into a ball. “Stupid,” he chastised himself.
“There’s no way Yuyan would call my name in his sleep,” he whispered to himself quietly and disappointed. Hikaru fell asleep with tear stains on his face.

The next day, Hikaru woke up a few hours earlier then Takaki. Quietly, he gathered his things and left. He needed time alone, and seeing Takaki would make everything worse.

A few hours after he arrived home, his phone rang and Takaki’s caller ID flashed in the screen. Hikaru rejected the call. Takaki tried a few more times but Hikaru ignored it. Lastly, Takaki sent a text message instead.

“Hey, why did you go home so early? Call me, okay?”

Hikaru deleted the text from his phone. Then, he stared at the documents in front of him. There’s nothing more for him in Japan, he thought. Now that he knows Takaki will never return his feelings. He was about to write a reply for his Juilliard acceptance letter, but stopped. He didn’t want to give up yet; his heart just wouldn’t.

So, Hikaru picked up his phone and dialed Takaki’s number. He apologized and made some excuses for leaving early. “I’ll see you at lunch at the usual place?”

There was a short silence before Takaki replied, “Actually Hika-chan, I was thinking of spending the day at the manga library.” He added in, “You can join me, if you want.”

“Naah, don’t worry about me, just enjoy yourself at the library,” Hikaru retorted. The truth was, he wasn’t ready to meet Yabu. Hikaru sighed, pulling his legs to his chest. Head on his knees, Hikaru stared at the documents in front of him once more.

Hikaru started seeing Takaki less and less ever since the sleepover. Takaki has started spending all of his free time at the library. It has been going on for five weeks now. The older guy had invited Hikaru along lots of time, but every time, Hikaru declined. Hikaru was afraid that meeting Yabu would really destroy him. Hikaru knew, all the time Takaki spent with Yabu, Takaki would fall in love more and more with the latter. Hikaru just knew his best friend too well. Hikaru has accepted the fact that Takaki would never be his. But even so, he couldn’t send his reply to Julliard. His heart just wouldn’t let go.

One day, after coming home from his music classes, Hikaru was surprised to see Takaki sitting on his bed with a determined look on his face. “What are you doing here?” Hikaru asked, hugging his violin case to his chest.

“I need your help,” Takaki announced. He poured the contents of his bag on Hikaru’s bed. There were papers; pencils, pens, etc. “Please help me with my manga.”

Hikaru didn’t say anything but continued putting away his violin; his back turned towards Takaki.

“I was giving him hints for weeks but he didn’t respond to any of it.” The young idol sighed.

“I know how that feels like,” Hikaru muttered under his breath.

“What did you say?”

“It’s nothing,” Hikaru answered, turning to face Takaki.

“So, can you help me?” Takaki gave his best friend a pout and puppy dog eyes.

Usually, Hikaru could not resist the eyes and the pout, but today it was different. The pressures from his parents as well as his music teacher about Juilliard stressed him out. If he had to listen to Takaki talking about Yabu for hours, he might just snapped.

He closed his eyes, inwardly shaking his head. “I’m sorry, Yuyan, I can’t today.”

“But Hika-chan~” Takaki whined.

“I said no!” Hikaru unconsciously raised his voice. Takaki just stared at him with surprised eyes. Hikaru covered his mouth, realizing what he did. “I’m- I’m sorry.” Then, without waiting for Takaki’s reply, Hikaru dragged his friend out the room and said, “Leave,” before slamming the door in his face.

After filling the bathtub with warm water and bath salt, Hikaru went into the tub. He closed his eyes, trying to empty his mind from everything with the help of the soothing lavender salt.

‘I wish I was brave enough to tell Yuyan how I feel,’ Hikaru thought before it all turned black.

“Hikaru! Hikaru!”

Hikaru’s eyes slowly opened, hearing someone calling his name, voice panicked and worried.

“Yuyan?” Hikaru voiced out once his eyes adjusted to the light in his room.

“What the hell is wrong with you, Hika?” Takaki snapped. Over all the years they had been friends, this was the first time Takaki ever raised his voice at him. “Are you trying to drown yourself? If I didn’t return for my stuff and found you unconscious in the bathtub, who knows what might happen.”

“I…”

“What the hell is going on with you, Hika-chan? You’ve been acting weird lately.” He sat on the bed next to Hikaru, holding Hikaru’s hand in his own. “I’m very worried about you.”’

Without a warning, Hikaru smashed his lips onto Takaki’s, causing him to fall on top of the latter. When he realized what was happening, Takaki immediately pushed Hikaru away, and the latter apologized.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t know what I was thinking,” said Hikaru. Takaki touched his lips, still speechless by what had happened. “Maybe you should go.”

Finally finding his voice, Takaki replied, “Yeah, maybe I should.”

Hikaru just stared at Takaki as he gathered the things he left behind. The latter stopped moving when he felt warmth from behind him. “I love you.”

Hikaru’s voice was so soft that Takaki could barely hear it. “I’m sorry, Hika-chan.” Hikaru’s hands loosened around Takaki’s waist.

“Just forget it,” said Hikaru.

“Well, goodbye then,” Takaki told him. He was about to exit the room when Hikaru stopped him by saying, “We’re still best friends, aren’t we?”

Takaki smiled. “Of course.”

After Takaki left, Hikaru slumped onto his bed. “I can’t believe I just did that.”

A week passed by since Hikaru unintentionally confessed his love. He didn’t once seen Takaki since then, but he could guess that Takaki must have been busy creating his manga. He had a lot of decision to make himself too. But one thing was sure, he has decided to accept the offer to Juilliard.

Just as Hikaru was about to ring Takaki’s doorbell, the door opened.

“Hika-chan,” Takaki said, surprised. “I haven’t seen you for days. Where have you been?”

There was a slight blush on Hikaru’s face. “I’ve been busy practicing,” he answered.

“I thought you were…you know, feeling awkward about before,” Takaki said, referring to the incident that happened in Hikaru’s room.

“I promise you it’s not that,” Hikaru stated. “But I do have something important to tell you though.”

Takaki looked at his watch. “Uh, Hika-chan, couldn’t this wait?” He showed Hikaru the manga that he made. “I’ve finally finish it so…”

Getting what Takaki wanted to say, Hikaru nodded his head. “Yeah, sure, go on ahead.”

Takaki grinned widely. “Talk to you later,” he said, and then, started running towards the train station.

Hikaru sighed and took out a letter from his knapsack. He placed it in Takaki’s mailbox before taking a bus to the airport.

Half an hour later, Hikaru arrived to Narita Airport. He waved at his mother when he saw her. Hikaru’s mother asked, “Have you told Yuya?”

“I left him a letter,” Hikaru answered.

His mother gave him a look. “Are you sure this is what you want?”

“Yes mom,” Hikaru replied. “I’ve explained everything in the letter. Besides, he has someone else in his life now, so he won’t be reminded much of his best friend.”

Mrs. Yaotome sighed, shaking her head. “Sometimes I wonder what I’m going to do with you.”

“Just trust me, mom,” Hikaru smiled. Soon, there was an announcement to board the airplane to America. “I guess it’s time,” he said. His mom nodded, and together they boarded the plane.

Hikaru looked out the window as they were taking off. ‘Yuyan, I’ve decided to leave everything behind and started anew. That also means I’m leaving behind all my feelings for you.”

“… It was true when I said I love you. I always have, even since we were children. But you never saw me past your best friend. But it was fine. I never regretted my feelings, even when you end up liking Yabu-san instead of me. I hope Yabu-san accepted your feelings, and I promise to return to Japan with someone who will love me, although I doubt he’ll be able to replace you because you will forever be my first love.

Another thing, Yuyan~ Please don’t be angry with me for leaving without telling you anything. I was afraid that if you knew, I might not be able to leave.

Love,
Yaotome Hikaru

Takaki replaced the letter in the envelope and placed it in his box of treasured items. He looked at the dark, night sky outside his bedroom window, “That’s a promise, Hika-chan,” he said softly to himself, smiling.

---------------------------------------

Keito smiled as he waited in line to pay for the groceries. Today was Valentine's Day, he's going to have dinner with Hikaru later tonight, and he has something important to say. He smiled again, his free hand went over his stomach. A few minutes later, a middle-aged man came into the store, and rudely walked pass the long line towards the cashier. Suddenly, the man pulled out a gun and yelled, "Give me all your money." Everyone ducked and screamed when the man shot at the ceiling. "Give it to me, NOW!" he hollered.

Keito wrapped a hand around his stomach protectively. From the tip of his eyes, he saw a teen, a few years younger then him, kept looking at the doorway. 'He probably is trying to sprint his way out,' thought Keito. And he was right. The boy started to sprint his way out a few minutes later. However, the boy didn't think his plan thorough. The agitated burglar heard the boy, turned around and started shooting at all directions. Keito closed his eyes, hands still protecting his stomach.

--------------------------------------

"I'm done," Hikaru said, putting down his paint brush to its place. He smiled, looking at the spring themed art piece he had been working on. Hikaru, is a 21 year-old university student, majoring in Oil Painting.

"Good job, man," Takaki said, lightly smacking Hikaru's back.

"Since you're done early, what are your plans for tonight?" Yabu, another Oil Painting major, asked. "Want to catch a drink?"

Hikaru just grinned. "I have an appointment tonight," he winked.

Yabu and Takaki laughed. "You rascal," they said.

After collecting his stuff, Hikaru made his way back to the apartment he shared with Keito. He took a little detour. "Keito loves flower,' he thought, smiling as he went into the flower shop.

When Hikaru arrived to his apartment at half past six, there were a few messages waiting for him. Some of them were insurance ads. Hikaru was about to delete all messages when one of them caught his attention. After listening to it, Hikaru immediately took his things and dashed out of the apartment.

--------------------------------------

"Okamoto-san!" Hikaru called out when he saw Keito's father, sitting outside one of the operation rooms at Tokyo General Hospital. "How is Keito?"

Okamoto Kenichi looked at Hikaru with red, puffy eyes, shaking his head. "He didn't make it," he said, his voice barely above whisper.

Hikaru felt his world falling apart. "H-How?" he managed to choke out.

After inhaling and exhaling some air to compose himself, Okamoto Kenichi looked at Hikaru and said, "There was a shooting incident at the place Keito went to shop, and Keito, h-he... He is o-one of the victims of the stray bullets."

Hikaru gasped, eyes widened as he fell onto the seat next to Okamoto Kenichi. "Keito," he said, eyes filled with sadness and regret.

Okamoto Kenichi stood up. "Hikaru," he said. Hikaru looked at the older man. "Earlier, the doctor who operated Keito requested to see us." He let out a deep breath. "Are you ready?" Hikaru just nodded as an answer. He didn't say anything as he stood up and followed Okamoto Kenichi's lead.

--------------------------------------

"This young lad must be your son's lover, I presume?" the doctor, Inui-sensei said, after Hikaru and Okamoto Kenichi took a seat in front of him.

Hikaru nodded his head. "Yes," he said. "I'm Yaotome Hikaru, Kei- Keito's lover."

Inui-sensei nodded his head. "The reason why I requested Okamoto Keito-san's lover to be present as well, is because of the discovery I've found while doing an autopsy on him."

"W-What is it, sensei?" Okamoto Kenichi asked.

"Apparently, there's another life growing inside Okamoto Keito-san," Inui-sensei said.

"What?" Hikaru and Okamoto Kenichi asked.

Inui-sensei sighed. "In other words, he is pregnant." Before either Hikaru or Keito's father could say anything, the doctor said, "I know this is weird but male pregnancy is not impossible. Male pregnancy could happen to one in a million people, although I've never encountered such patients." Hikaru and Okamoto Kenichi could only stare at the male doctor, speechless. "Anyway," Inui-sensei said, "after I found out, I looked at Keito-san's medical history, and got in touch with Sayaka-sensei, Keito-san's doctor from the OB-GYN department."

Hikaru was the first to break the silence. "K-Keito...h-he's pregnant."

Inui-sensei nodded his head. "I just got off the phone with Sayaka-sensei a few minutes before both of you entered, confirming the matter."

Tears started to fill Hikaru's eyes again. "I didn't know," he said softly. "I...I was going to be a father." After that, Hikaru broke down for the first time that night. Okamoto Keichi embraced his son's lover as he whispered some comforting words, his fatherly instinct kicking in.

-----------------------------------

After reassuring Keito's father for a few times, Hikaru finally managed to make the old man to agree on letting him return to his apartment that night. At the very least, Okamoto Kenichi had made Hikaru agree on letting the old man drive him home. Hikaru was a complete mess when he arrived to his apartment. His eyes were red and puffy, his face was still pale. Hikaru went into the bedroom he shared with Keito and sat on Keito's side of the bed. He just sat there, staring at nowhere.

Then, an object caught his eyes. He immediately reached for it. It was a book. A diary to be exact, Keito's diary. He often laughed when he saw his lover wrote on his diary, but deep in his heart, he loved seeing the passionate side of Keito.

Hikaru flipped it open, smiling a little when he saw Keito's neat handwriting. The first entry was dated two months ago, so it was probably a new book, Hikaru thought. He began reading.

5th January 2010

I've been vomitting again this morning. I wonder what's wrong with me. Thankfully Hikaru had already left for bidai. I really hate to worry him over small matters.

Hikaru felt his eyes filled with tears, he felt a lump in his throat. Keito was feeling sick, but he never noticed. He flipped to another page. The next entry was dated two weeks after the first entry.

19th January 2010

I'm still feeling nauseas, and like the last two weeks, I'm still vomitting during the morning. Again, thank god Hikaru didn't notice. He had an important painting to finish, so I didn't want him to worry about me.

Anyways, later that afternoon, I was walking home from university with Yama-chan, and I fainted. He took me to a hospital nearby, and I was thankful that he didn't call Hikaru. I really didn't want to distract him from his work.

Later on, Yama-chan and I were both surprised by what the doctor told us. I was pregnant. I, a male, pregnant. After running a few more tests to confirm it, it was clear that I really am pregnant. I didn't know how it happened, nor did the doctor, but I was happy. I guess, because, although Hikaru never said it, I know he loves children. The way he played with al the childrens at the day care where I was working part time, I know he likes children. And, by loving me, he was depriving himself from having a little one of his own. But now, God have gave us a miracle. A little one of our own.

By now, Hikaru was crying hard. 'Keito,' he thought. 'Why didn't you tell me?' Hikaru flipped to another page.

24th January 2010

I still haven't told Hikaru. Well, this is something pretty big, I didn't want to suddenly drop this kind of things on him. But anyway, I've decided. Valentine would be next month, deshou? I'll tell him on that day. Besides, Hikaru was always complaining that I never acted romantic when I'm with him.

Hikaru flipped to the very last entry in that book.

13th February 2010

It's tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day :)
I'll be having a dinner with Hikaru tomorrow, and I will tell him that time.
I wonder how he'll react. He'll love his Valentine's gift for sure, ne? :)

Hikaru hugged the book to his chest, and cried. "Oh Keito," he said, his hands clenched into a fist. "Why'd you have to leave?"
